This board has come from a busy piece of tree! It has a few knots and inclusions in it, giving it some lovely character, but also making it a little tricky to work with. The ‘work’ side of this board has a small knot which has been filled, however the backside has a couple more big inclusions (where a branch would have been growing out of), and over time these may raise from the surface of the board, making it a little tipsy (check out the last two pictures).

The price reflects the potential for this board to warp a tad, but it’s still good, solid beech. Maybe you like the thrill of chopping your veg on a wobbly board, maybe you like a bargain or maybe I’m wrong and the board will remain stable for years. It’s perfectly flat right now after all.

Made from Irish beech, this medium sized board has been sustainably sourced in Kilkenny, cut to size, planed, flattened and sanded in multiple stages before being finished with a good, long soak in food safe mineral oil. It’s easy to maintain and re-oil at home (I’d recommend coconut oil) if it begins to look dry from use.

Chop up your veg on it, platter up those bbq bites or use it as a runner or trivet at the dinner table!
